2017 releases I have not yet read (The horror!) - Simply Adrift

There have been so many anticipated reads that have already been released this year, and it’s only 5 months into the year. There are so many more anticipated reads being released for the rest of the year. I am so excited!

It doesn’t help that I have been very slow at reading the past few months. I’ve been super busy with work, with life stuff, and also with blog stuff. I’ve been using a lot of my free time to organise blog stuff instead of reading, so I haven’t been powering through books like I usually do. Oh the woe’s of running a blog and trying to have a life at the same time!

Looking at the list of books I’ve read this year, most of them are releases from 2016, so I’ve barely touched the tip of the iceberg for 2017 releases. The below are a list of books that have been released this year that I haven’t yet had a chance to read but I so very much want to!

2017 releases I have not yet read

Strange the Dreamer - Simply Adrift Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor
Everyone is raving about this book. Everyone has been so excited to read this. I think the hype of this book is one of the reasons I haven’t picked it up yet. The other reason is I really disliked the author’s other series, Daughter of Smoke & Bone – I was hella bored and hella confused. I’m a bit intimidated to pick this up because of the hype, and also really sceptical that I will enjoy it. But I do want to see how I go with this, so it’s on the list!

The Great Pursuit by Wendy Higgins
I enjoyed the first book The Great Hunt, I was interested in the story of the beast. The romance fell short though – because it was insta-love on the heroine’s part and she was chasing the love interest around like a child. But overall I enjoyed this enough and I am excited to see where this next books goes. It feels like it has real potential to be more than a book about love and romance.

Windwitch - Simply Adrift Windwitch by Susan Dennard
I liked Truthwitch, I mean it was a little hard to get into it and I felt like the world building was confusing and all over the place. But once I got into it I really liked the premise of Truthwitch. I’m excited to see where the story goes in Windwitch. Especially after that ending!

The Wish Granter by C.J. Redwine
Ohhh my gosh, how have I not read this yet?! I loved The Shadow Queen, I thought it was an awesome retelling of Snow White and that the main character was an unapologetic, bad-ass. The Wish Granter is a Rumpelstiltskin retelling, and oh my, I am so excited to see how this one turns out.

Empress of a Thousand Skies - Simply Adrift Empress of a Thousand Skies by Rhoda Belleza
I love Sci Fi! Recently there have been a LOT of YA Sci Fi releases. It’s all the rage. And I am SO HAPPY ABOUT IT! A crown princess warrior out for revenge? Sworn enemies forced to work together? This one sounds super interesting, I can’t wait to check it out!

Avenged by Amy Tintera
I enjoyed Ruined for what it was. Although I had problems with it and felt like it was a shallow version of what it could have been (The story was predictable and there were no twists). Plus the more I think about it the more I’m convinced that there was insta-love, Em falls too quickly for Prince Cas, and vice versa. But I do want to see where this story leads and what happens etc.

Flame in the Mist - Simply Adrift Flame in the Mist by Renee Ahdieh
A Mulan retelling?! YES PLEASE! I mean do I really need to say anymore? I’ve already expressed my love for fairy tale retelling’s and listed retelling books I loved.

The Names they Gave Us by Emery Lord – I’m not a big contemporary reader, but after reading Jamie’s review of this book I decided I HAVE to read this. It sounds so interesting and intense. Not the kind of book I usually read, but after reading Jamie’s review, I know there are a number of themes that I could relate to. So I’m interested in checking it out.

Have you read any of the above books? What 2017 releases have been released this year that you have yet to read?

  1. I LOVED strange the dreamer! It’s more informing that the previous series of the same author and despite being a little slow at first, it builds up nicely! I also liked FITM for the Japanese details. I kind of like Windwitch but Truthwitch was much better. I hope you’ll enjoy the books when you have the time, and of course I’m waiting for your ACOWAR review!!!! 🙂

    • I agree! I think she’s gotten a lot better, and it helps that the situations are so relatable (as relatable as they can be all thigns considered). Her descriptions have always been beautiful, but now they’re more grounded and don’t detract as much as they do in DOSAB.

  2. Ah! I adore Emery Lord’s work, but for some reason I didn’t realise The Names They Give Us was already out? (I know! Sacrilege!) That’s one that I really must read ASAP – if it’s anything like her other books, it’ll be so heartwrenching & gorgeous & true. I can’t wait. Thank you so much for the reminder, love — & wishing you all the best of luck in reading these other incredible books! 😉 <3
