New Design & 2017 so far - Simply Adrift

Arghh do you remember when I posted my first post for the year? On the 1st of March. In which I said I was going to be around more often? But then I kind of disappeared a little. I say a little because I had scheduled a whole bunch of posts to carry me through until the beginning of May. But I haven’t actually been around the blogosphere in that time.

Why? You ask. My cousin got engaged and was getting married two months after the engagement. She asked me to be her maid of honour, which I said “Are you sure? I’m all the way in London…” and she said “Of course I’m sure.” Then I said “Yes, definitely. How could I ever say no?”. And then I proceeded to help her plan her wedding as much as I could from half a world away.

I flew to New Zealand for a week (Literally only six days) so I could be there for the ceremony and help her make the last of the decorations the few days before the wedding. It was amazing, the wedding went off without a hitch, the bride & groom were a beautiful couple, speeches were funny and enjoyable (Personally I think I nailed mine), and dancing hilariously ensued.

Therefore, I have not been around because I have been insanely busy helping with this wedding and organising a few extra surprises for my cousin. Once I flew back to London though, I’ve just been exhausted and had no motivation to blog. Again.

All I can say is, I’m sorry I haven’t been around! And I’m glad I had already pre-scheduled those posts.

New Look

I have a new look! I’m really digging it. I wanted to change things up a bit but I wasn’t sure how. The actual layout is the same still because that still works for me, plus I may lack the ability to design my layout any better. And completely re-hauling my layout was taking too much time, I may change the actual layout in the future but for now this will do me fine. What do you think?

What’s a better way to try and get the inspiration flowing than redesigning? A new look makes me feel fresh, and different. I’m definitely feeling inspired to create, and discuss, and explore.

New Blog Series

You read that right! I will be starting a new blog series called Simply Blog. This blog series will mainly focus on simple blogging tips and tricks for bloggers. I wanted a place where I could collate all of this information together, so I thought starting a new blogging series would be perfect.

What should you expect? Blogging how-to’s, tips & tricks, anything blogging.

I’m really excited to start an actual blogging series since I’ve been trying to start one since I started Simply Adrift in March 2016… It only took me 14 months.

  1. OH yay, I really love blogging tips and tricks, I’m excited to read more of these kind of posts 🙂
Also, wow, flying to NZ and back in only one week must have been quite…well, everything must have gone by in a blur! Glad to hear you had fun! 🙂

    • I’m always intrigued to read more blogging tips & tricks posts! Especially when bloggers have NEW tricks to share 😀

I definitely had a full on week! I was pretty exhausted when I got back to London, but I’m glad I went. The wedding was a lot of fun and I wouldn’t have missed her wedding for anything.

Thanks for stopping by Marie 🙂

  2. Hey welcome back! Hope all is well. Blogging breaks are good things I think, it helps to step away once in a while. And the new look is great!

  3. I actually love the new look – noticed it right away. Nothing wrong with it not being an absolute overhaul. If it’s not broke, why change it? 😉

I think it’s forgivable that you’ve been a bit MIA, especially if you’ve had wedding stuff going on. I actually find that’s my biggest distractor with my blog these days. I don’t know how people work full-time while planning a wedding AND blogging. I don’t work at all and can barely keep up! It can be a lot to juggle at times. I sometimes feel like trying to split between my motivation between both results in having no motivation for either!

Yes to having content scheduled in advance though. I actually could’ve made it so there was no break on my blog as well as I did have other posts drafted/more or less ready to go. Unfortunately I have this thing where I get really bothered with myself if I don’t respond to blog comments so instead of allowing more and more to accumulate I decided taking a break to catch up was best. I’m still not quite up all the way but I’m getting there! (It would help if I didn’t write so much every time. Whoops!)

So yes, no worries that you haven’t been around but I’m glad to see you’re somewhat back again (even if I think you mentioned it might have something to do with being sick, haha).

I’m looking forward to your new blog series. Even though we’ve been doing this off-and-on for quite a few years, it always seems like there’s something new to learn or an easier way to accomplish things.

And hey, you need to read some more exciting books. Where’s the 5 star ratings? (Or are you someone who guards those and rarely hands them out?)

    • Yay thank you!

I completely understand how hard it is to juggle those things! I marvel at people who can juggle that many things too, because I’m really bad at juggling just work & blogging. If I have to juggle one more thing then blogging usually drops…

That’s a good reason to leave a bit of a gap. It’s really hard to catch up on blog comments, especially if you like to respond back to everyone on their blogs. I try to respond to everyone that comments on mine but sometimes it’s so hard when there are so many to reply to! I think you’re doing really well!

Haha honestly, most of this week I’ve either been sleeping or blogging… I’ve been too sick to leave the house, so I’ve had all the time in the world to catch up on some my blogging to-do list! I finally managed to work my head around mail chimp and to set up an RSS Feed newsletter which I’m super excited about 😀 I definitely wouldn’t have had time to do that otherwise. I mean I’ve been meaning to do it since I first started Simply Adrift… But every time I’ve started it. it’s just been too complicated for me to figure out at the time.

The blog series will start off for beginners and gradually make it’s way up in level of difficulty I think. Mostly because I myself do not think of myself as an ‘advanced’ blogger lol. I can’t exactly give pointers on things I don’t know much about lol. So blogging basics it is!

Haha I know right?! I feel like my 5 stars are hard to give out. I always find something that makes me not give it 5 stars. I think there may be a 5 star review coming up next month though!
